This Iron Man issue is significant because it highlights the first returning villain. Professor Vanko defected to the United States to work for Tony Stark after Iron Man defeated him in his Crimson Dynamo armor and now the Soviets are out for revenge. They send not one, but two villains to the United States to take care of Iron Man, Vanko and Tony Stark. The first is the beautiful Black Widow and the other is known simply as Boris, a man with super strength. It doesn’t take Boris long to get to Vanko and after securing the former spy, Boris dons Vanko’s Crimson Dynamo armor so he has the fire powere to take care of Iron Man.
In the meantime, Black Widow was doing her best to seduce Tony Stark before Stark gets the call that there’s trouble at his lab. Not knowing Vanko isn’t the man in the Dynamo suit, Iron Man turns his back and gets hit hard and knocked out. Iron Man’s capture is short lived though and after using a light bulb socket to recharge, he finds Vanko and escapes.
Things finish up with Iron Man and Dynamo going at it once again with Dynamo getting the upper hand with an electric charge. Iron Man fights back though and he looks like he has Dynamo dead to rights before the Black Widow plays possum as a helpless victim about the get squashed. The distraction is enough for Dynamo but before he can finish off Iron Man, Vanko sacrafices himself by using his experimental laser light pistol. Black Widow gets away and we all know that’s not the last we’ll see of her.
