In Iron Man’s third issue in Tales of Suspense, he takes on an early machination of Dr. Strange. Instead of being a sorceror, Dr. Strange is a tinkerer who was struck by a lightening bolt on the day he was captured by U.S. paratroopers. He escapes from prison and he uses his abilities to hypnotize Iron Man to bust him out of prison. Stark later goes after Dr. Strange, breaks into his stronghold and takes out his generators.
Iron Man’s actions sap of his power and he’s about to go down when Strange’s daughter throws Iron Man a flash light so he can use the batteries to refuel. Strange eventually sees his fate and escapes off the island.
